ABOUT

The space between the beats defines our time.

The space between the beats defines our time.

We hear culture in the way people hold a rhythm. The push of a drum, the delay of a hi-hat, the space a musician leaves between notes—these choices carry something of how people live, move and think.

Time Capsule exists to help people understand different cultures and ways of thinking through music. We bring overlooked recordings back into circulation and recover the stories around them: who made them, where they came from, and the circumstances that shaped their sound.

Through carefully produced records, writing and shared listening, we offer ways into those worlds. We want to give listeners enough context to hear more deeply, while leaving room for what the music alone can express.

OUR APPROACH

We’re a London-based reissue label and cultural publisher, with roots in Japan and relationships that reach across the world.

Our work begins with listening and research. We work with artists, families and rights holders to understand the recordings we release and the lives around them. That care extends to licensing, translation, credits and the stories told in each edition.

Sound quality is part of that responsibility. Finding the best available sources, making thoughtful mastering decisions and listening closely to test pressings help preserve the detail and feeling of a performance. The sleeve, photographs and liner notes give it a physical home.

We want each release to remain worth returning to, long after its first appearance on a record shop shelf.
